OUR HISTORY
It’s difficult to know when the dream was first stirred. Though it without a doubt came from the heart.
In 2015, Tee Walker started with a dream…to have a place that was an experience that teases every sense - smell, sight, taste, touch, hearing. And maybe...a sixth sense - not of seeing dead people as in the popular movie, but quite the opposite - a sense of being in the presence of Life. A place to Connect. A place to Relax. A Place to Dream.
In thinking of where people may seek connection, a church setting often comes to mind. It seems like a popular practice today is to offer coffee in the lobby and allow parishioners to bring their drink into the sanctuary to drink while congregating. Tee’s dream was not so different. What if we created a space that served coffee, where others...anyone...could find sanctuary....
That could be a tall order for a small shop...good thing she had big dreams and a village to help her build it! Sweet Tee’s officially opened in 2015 and soon became that sanctuary for anyone and everyone. Whether they wanted coffee, tea, pastries or just place to meet friends or find peace. Sweet Tee’s became a community and remains that today. Though the shop has evolved over the years and began a new chapter in 2021, it remains a place of community, sanctuary and acceptance.
Being a part of the Olathe/Kansas City community has been a key to the shops success. We use a local small-batch coffee roaster for all our coffee, and make our pastries in house and offer local Artists work for sale on the walls.
In 2022 we decided to expand even further into the community by taking over management of the Olathe Library Indian Creek Café. In April 2023, we opened the Cafe in the new Olathe Downtown Library. Being in the libraries allows us to be out in the community offering all the Sweet Tee’s favorites where the community gathers. The new Downtown Olathe location will allow us to help with the invigoration of a key part of the city.
Tee Walker has taken off in her RV as she dreams of new adventures. You can keep up with her travels on Instagram @dreaming_adventure_now, as she finds new escapades and some coffee shops along the way, of course.
